With over 40 years of experience in the manufacture of mild steel products, we at D & M Porter Limited (t/a Porters of Calthwaite) have accumulated a customer and supplier base to be proud of.
We take pride in the fact we have many repeat customers going back for many years, also we are constantly building excellent relationships with all our more recent customers.
Our established supplier base enables us to purchase at extremely competitive prices, these savings are then passed on to our customers in the form of consistantly competitive prices for all our products.
These days we mainly manufacture bespoke pallets, stillages, dollies and trolleys for many areas of industry, however over the years we have manufactured many other mild steel products. These include fencing, railings and gates for parks and housing estates in London and other counties across the UK even up as far as the Shetland Islands, crowd control barriers etc. for many popular football grounds including Wimbledon and Chelsea, architectural metalwork for parks and gardens countrywide, recycling cages and more. We are situated in Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District yet only ten minutes from the M6 Motorway (Junction 41 and 42), as such we are in a position to deliver our products nationwide with ease.
Definition of Pallets and Stillages
Pallets serve as a base for assembling, handling, sorting, storing, and transporting goods as a unit load. Job specific pallets come in different designs, dimensions, and materials; such as a two-way entry pallet, four-way entry pallet, box pallet, post pallet etc. Also called a skid. A stillage is like a pallet or skid but with a cage or sides or some form of support specifically tailored to the material it is intended to carry. All our pallets and stillages are designed to be stackable. Stillages are mainly used to transport goods without the need to load and unload the product being carried, which saves time and decreases the chance of damage

Pallets & Stillages
All our pallets & stillages are manufactured to order, wherever possible made from materials sourced from the UK, using local suppliers. They are all stackable, also can be made foldable, this significantly reduces storage space and reduces costs when transporting empty pallets or stillages.
Fencing & Railings
We can manufacture a wide range of fencing or railings to suit your needs, whether it is security or aesthetic there are many designs available and as with all our other products we can design and build to your own specifications.
Trollies & Dollies
These are very similar to pallets & stillages as in they are designed to carry products or parts etc. however these are fitted with quality castors. They can be manoeuvred by hand or indeed towed behind forklifts etc. Can also be made stackable to save space when not in service. Dollies are generally used to carry stillages, this enables an operative to manoeuvre a stillage into the position required without the need of a forklift, very useful in confined spaces.

Pallets and Stillages
All our pallets, stillages, dollies and trolleys are bespoke, we can manufacture to your design, but we are equally as happy to do the design work for you if required. All our products can be galvanised, powder coated or painted in your choice of colour, stencilled and/or labelled with your required information. If requested we can also arrange testing and certification of our products.
We work within strict tolerances as many of our products are routinely used in press shops etc. with robots, as such accurate and correct placement in the stillages is essential.
Pallets and stillages provide a cost effective method of storing, moving and protecting your products, also they provide an excellent reduction in manual handling and improved workplace safety overall.
